What’s the Deal with Blanton’s Bottle Stoppers?

A few years back, my wife and I received a bottle of Blanton’s whiskey as a gift. We sipped on the bourbon whiskey over the next few months and eventually reached the bottom of the bottle. The globe shaped bottle was unique, the date and batch were all hand-written. The Blanton’s whiskey, bottle stopper really completed the bottle and made it visually apealing. However, my wife and I enjoy full bottles of whiskey much more than empty ones. Since we did not have a use for the empty bottle, I turned to eBay. It was then that I realized that the Blanton’s bottles and stoppers are collectibles.

Each bottle stopper features a horse and jockey. Each stopper is also marked with one of the letters B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S. Each letter represents the progression of the horse and jockey during a race. The letter “B” represents the horse at a trot, and in the final scene, the “S” shows the duo crossing the finish line. The progression can be seen in the image below.

The Blanton’s whiskey collectible bottle stopper will usually sell on eBay for around $14-$20. This is a small amount when compared to the original purchase price of the whiskey. At the time of this post, I have sold two Blanton’s stoppers in this price range. One of my previously sold Blanton’s stoppers included the original bottle and it sold on the higher end. You can see my previously sold, Blanton’s bottle stoppers here. Blanton’s decision to create the collectible and decorative bottle top was a brilliant idea. I hope that the concept catches on and other brands start their own collection. While there is very little money to be made, I love reselling whiskey corks and stoppers.
