I have never found the need for a slide hammer, but if I did, then I want it to be an Irwin. Irwin brand tools are well made right here in the USA. I recently sold this IRWIN 10WR Vise Grip with Slide Hammer attachment for what I thought was an amazing price. The tool was preowned, the jaws showed some wear and there was some light surface rust on the weight. Overall, the pliers and weight were in very good shape.

In case you are not familiar with the slide hammer, some people call this a puller. The concept is simple. You attach the vise grip to the work piece and then slide the five-plus pound weight in the opposite direction. Whatever the vise grip is locked onto is going to move. I have heard of people using a puller to remove bearing from heavy machinery.
