Should I Accept An Offer On eBay?

If you have been an eBay seller for any length of time then you may have found yourself wondering when should I accept an offer on eBay? The truth is, accepting an offer on eBay can sometimes be a tricky scenario. Below are some key points that I look for before making tapping the “accept” button.

Am I Making Money?

If you are going to the trouble of listing items on eBay, then you are probably anticipating making extra cash. If you haven’t already, then you may want to check out Flipping to Turn a Profit. Any amount of money above your purchase price if profit, right? Actually, the answer is no. Once an item sells you must pay eBay fees, packing, and shipping. These are all things that I take into account prior to accepting an offer. In the end, if I determine that I am making a sufficient profit, then I let the item go.

What is the Sell Price for Similar Item?

This research is often done at the time of listing but sometimes things change. In the world of buying and selling, timing is critical.

Let’s use sport collectibles for example. In September, Josh Allen rookie cards may be selling at a premium. But the season is just getting started, and his chances of playing in a Super Bowl look promising. By late November, the Bills may be struggling a bit and they may not look like a Super Bowl contender. Josh Allen Cards as a whole could potentially take a hit. His rookie cards may be selling for significantly less that they were two months earlier.

How Much Interest Has this Item Had?

Some items sell more frequently than others. I sell tools, board games, and Athletics on a regular basis. It is not surprising that certain name brands within those categories sell better than others. Off-brand items or items that aren’t popular will sometime sit in inventory for a long time. If an item has been listed for an extended period of time and it is drawing little interest, I will be more likely to accept a reasonable offer.

Does this Item Fit within my Niche

I like selling all sorts of things, but at times, I find myself listing an item that I have little interest in. Long story short, I recently found myself listing a Gibraltar drum throne. It was a super nice throne but I know little about drums or drum equipment. These seats were listed from $100-$300 on eBay so I listed for $269. Shortly after I listed the drum throne I received and offer of $150.

I had no real interest in the item, and it took up too much room on my shelves. Most importantly, I was making an reasonable profit. I accepted the offer and received a positive feedback from the buyer.

Conclusion

Next time you receive an offer on one of your listings, it may be helpful to ask yourself some of these questions. You may find yourself making more sales, turning over inventory, and making more money.
