Where do I start with this amazing Spalding Model 42-263 Ken Hubbs Baseball Glove? I ran across this 1960s model Spalding baseball glove in an antique store located in Chattanooga Tennessee’s antique district. Other than being stiff, the glove was in amazing condition for a 60 year old glove.
Once I returned home with the glove, I cleaned it with a little saddle soap and then conditioned it with Rawlings leather conditioner. During the cleaning stage, one of the laces broke in the fingers and one in the palm. Gloves today use much thicker leather lacing so I had to order a small roll specifically for this glove.
After completing the cleaning and repair process, my son and I both took the glove for a test drive. I have to say, it was pretty awesome using a glove that was older than both our ages combined. As with all of the antique items I come across, I pondered on what story’s this glove held. The big plays on a little league field, kids laughing in dug outs, dads playing catch in the front yard, like I do with my son.
